Created in response to a research study by feminist soil activist Vandana Shiva, who investigated the introduction of genetically modified golden potatoes into Indian agriculture. While the Golden GM Potato was engineered to address vitamin A deficiency through increased beta-carotene content, Shiva critiques the way such technologies necessitate dependencies on proprietary seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides, ultimately threatening the food sovereignty and autonomy of small-scale farmers.
